TIFL LINEMAN COMPETITION
PUSH UP – The push-up event measures the endurance of the chest, shoulder, and triceps muscles. on the command, ‘get set’, assume the front-leaning rest position by placing your hands where they are comfortable for you. your feet may be together or up to 12 inches apart (measured between the feet). when viewed from the side, your body should form a generally straight line from your shoulders to your ankles. on the command ‘go’, begin the push-up by bending your elbows and lowering your entire body as a single unit until your upper arms are at least parallel to the ground. then, return to the starting position by raising your entire body until your arms are fully extended. your body must remain rigid in a generally straight line and move as a unit while performing each repetition. at the end of each repetition, the scorer will state the number of repetitions you have completed correctly.
SCORE: Total repetitions of the team.
SIT UPS - The sit-up event measures the endurance of the abdominal and hip-flexor muscles. on the command ‘get set’, assume the starting position by lying on your back with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle. your feet may be together or up to 12 inches apart (measured between the feet). another person will hold your ankles with the hands only. no other method of bracing or holding the feet is authorized. the heel is the only part of your foot that must stay in contact with the ground. On the command, ‘go’, begin raising your upper body forward to, or beyond, the vertical position. the vertical position means that the base of your neck is above the base of your spine. after you have reached or surpassed the vertical position, lower your body until the bottom of your shoulder blades touch the ground.

TIMED HANG The purpose is to measure the grip strength of the participant. The participant will begin with palms down grip on the pull up bar & feet on the rack. The time will begin when the participants feet comes off the rack and begins to hang. The participant can vertically adjust his body if the feet do not tough any part of the rack. The time is stopped when participant loses grip on the pull up bar.
SCORE: Total time of the team, every minute is 60pts
HEX BAR FIREMAN CARRY - The purpose is to measure the lower body strength and endurance of the participant. The participant will begin with his feet inside a 135 weighted hex bar. The participant will start at a cone and travel as many yards as possible within 1 minute. Should the participant lose his grip of the hex bar before the 1 minute time limit then only the yards traveled prior to the drop will be counted.
SCORE: Total distance of the team.
HEX BAR SQUATS - The purpose is to measure the lower body strength and endurance of the participant. The participant will begin with his feet inside a 135 weighted hex bar. The participant will start at a cone and squat as many times as possible within 1 minute.

TIRE FLIP - The purpose is to measure the flexibility, strength and endurance of the participants lower body. The participant will begin in a squat position with the hands underneath the tire. The participant will then flip the tire for 10 yards in each direction (20 yard total) as quickly as possible. The participant may use hands, knees, feet to complete a flip of the tire.

MEDICINE BALL TOSS - The purpose is to measure the power generated by the participant’s core. The participant will throw the med ball using an underhand technique over the head & shoulder. The participant will begin with the heels at the designated yard line, in an athletic position, hands under (palms up) med ball. The participant will then generate as much power to toss the over his head and shoulder as far as possible.

FOOTBALL THROW - The purpose to measure the arm strength of the participant. The participant will grip a football and attempt to throw it as far as possible.

AGILITY COURSE - The purpose is to measure the athleticism and endurance of the participant. The participant will start in a 3-point stance time will begin on the participant’s movement. From the 3-point stance the participant will sprint towards a speed ladder executing 2 feet in each box, sprint to 5 agile bags to execute sprint - back pedal through the 5 bags. After the 5th bag the participant will transition to cone #1, run and dip through pop up bags, & come to overhead 35lb (MS and above) / 25Ib (MS-JV and below) plate walk-in lunge for 5 yards, participant will execute transition to a bear crawl through 4 agile bags, get up & side shuffle through another 4 agile bags, transition to a sprint & finish through cones

1 MAN SLED PUSH - The purpose is to measure the ability of 5 participants to work individually over a 20 yard distance. The team of 5 will begin at the goal line and drive the sled for 20 yards alternating at that distance. The sled must remain within the defined boundary. The time will begin on the initial movement. The team must keep the sled within the boundary, should the sled fall outside the boundary the team will be penalized 2 seconds every time the sled is pushed outside the designated boundaries.

1 MAN SLED PULL - The purpose is to measure the ability of 5 participants to work individually over a 100 yard distance. The team of 5 will begin at the goal line and pull the sled for 100 yards alternating at that distance. The time will begin on the initial movement.

FAT MAN DISTANCE RELAY - This is a 4x400 m relay. Each team will have 4 sprinters, The first leg of the 4 participants will execute 1 full lap around the track handing a baton to the 2nd leg who will execute 1 full lap and will then hand off the baton to the 3rd leg of team who will execute 1 full lap & hand off the baton to the 4th and final leg of the team.
SCORE: Total time of the team, every minute is 60pts
FAT MAN RELAY - This is a 4x100 m relay. Each team will have 4 sprinters, The first leg of the 4 participants will execute 1 x 100 m handing a baton to the 2nd leg who will execute 1 x 100 m then hand off the baton to the 3rd leg of team who will execute 1 x 100 m & hand off the baton to the 4th and final leg of the team.
SCORE: Total time of the team.
5 on 5 - Today's linemen must master "positioning" on their opponent and that begins with proper footwork, hand placement, escape moves, gap responsibility, and understanding the play from the backfield perspective. These are all focal points of this event. At the start 5 Offensive lineman and 5 Defensive Lineman will position themselves and their “ready stance”. A pop up bag will be placed 5 to 7 yards behind the center. A staff member will sporadically pick a defender by pointing at them to attack the offensive lineman and try to get to the pop up bag. If the Offensive Lineman holds the Defensive Lineman for 4 seconds then that teams scores a point. If the Defense Lineman touches the pop up bag that team receives a point.
NOTE: Each Defensive Lineman will go three times.

1 on 1 – Same as 5 on 5 but just individuals. Each offensive lineman will face every defensive lineman twice.

Tug O War - Tug of War is one of the most ancient games known to man and there is evidence that it was played across the ancient world including ancient Greece, Egypt and China. Also known as rope pulling, tugging war and war of tug, it remains today a popular sport that pits the strengths of two teams against each other. Most Tug of War matches are completed in a best of three format, and the objective is to beat the competition and win the match by winning at least two of the three pulls in the match. Within each pull, the objective is to win by pulling the opposition and the opposition’s 4m marker towards the center so that the mark passes the center line, resulting in a win. It is not possible to tie a Tug of War match
NOTE: Best of 3 is a Win.
